Who Will Benefit From This Certificate Program?
Anyone who provides Interpreter Services at Health and Human Services Agencies, Health Departments, Schools, Senior Centers and other Community Service Agencies, including:
- Bilingual staff who are at times called to interpret
- Staff (in-house) interpreters

- Promote National Interpreter Code of Ethics
- Learn and reinforce the appropriate Standards of Practice for Interpreters
- Expand knowledge
- National interpreter certification preparation (CHI™ and CMI exams)
- Meet the USDA Recommendation for Interpreter Training
- Get feedback and experience sharing with other interpreters
Community interpreters face unprecedented challenges and stress in their work. The 40-hour Community Interpreter® certificate program helps interpreters deliver better outcomes and reduce liability for service providers. In addition, the course content, group discussions and post-training forums develop interpreters' skills to better manage the physical, psychological and emotional stress inherent in their role. Not only do trained interpreters do work, they are healthier and happier and less likely to burn out. Retaining talented and happy employees is a huge advantage for service providers as well as for the people and communities they serve.

Participants will receive: "The Community Interpreter: An International Textbook" (published 2015, $120) and "The Community Interpreter: An International Workbook" (published 2015, $60).

About the Trainer:
Michelle Menard is the Founder and CEO of Choice Translating®, Inc., a leading translating and interpreting services provider headquartered in Charlotte, NC providing language services in 200 languages, 24/7/365. A native French speaker, Michelle was certified as a Bridging the Gap and Cultural Competency in Healthcare trainer in addition to Choice Translating’s® custom interpreter training programs and has been training interpreters for almost 20 years. This course is based on “The Community Interpreter®” curriculum by Marjorie Bancroft and four additional authors, national leaders in community interpreting.
