In-Person Interpreting Services in the Carolinas
In-Person Interpreting is when an interpreter is sent to a physical location to interpret face-to-face for a client and an LEP (limited English proficient) or deaf/hard of hearing individual or group. Typical scenarios requiring in-person interpreting include:

  • Social Services ( Office and home visits ) or hospice
  • Medical appointments
  • Arrest processing
  • Crime scene investigations and victim interviews
  • Legal depositions
  • Employee meetings and orientations
  • Parent/Teacher conferences at school

In-person interpreting is often more cost-effective than over-the-phone interpreting when appointments will last more than a few minutes, when appointments are planned in advance, and when communication may require extra human interaction and visual contact. Non-verbal communication (body language) accounts for more than 90% of communication.

After setting up an In-person interpreting account, you can book appointments using our online scheduling platform, Schedule Interpreter.

OPI interpreting is when an interpreter is connected by telephone with you and an LEP (Limited English Proficiency) person or group. Typical scenarios requiring OPI include time sensitive emergency situations and when there is no in-person resource available.

OPI interpreting is often more cost-effective than in-person interpreting when appointments will last fewer than 30 minutes, when the conversation is not complex or emotionally charged, such as setting an in-office appointment with an LEP patient.

After setting up an OPI account, you can access interpreters over the phone on demand, 24 hours a day, every day, by dialing your access number, entering your account code, and requesting the language you need.

VRI is when an interpreter is connected by video link with you and an LEP (Limited English Proficiency) person or group. Typical scenarios requiring VRI include situations when body language is important to capture in addition to spoken communication, and in-person resources are not available.

After setting up a VRI account, you can request interpreters by video, 24 hours a day, every day, through the VRI Portal.
